NIVEA In-Shower Skin Conditioner

As a sufferer of eczema and skin sensitivity, I’m constantly on the lookout of lotions, creams, cleansers and body washes that are gentle on the skin. If a body product seems to aggravate my eczema, I’ll move on to a new product. I’m pretty sure this NIVEA In-Shower Skin Conditioner isn’t a new product and I probably had walked pass it gazillion of times. What triggered me to try out this product was a photo of it on Instagram when I was searching hashtag #nivea. I thought why not give it a try!

From NIVEA’s website:
“NIVEA In-Shower Body Lotion immediately absorbs into the skin, leaving a nourishing and caring coating on the skin’s surface to give your skin the moisture it needs. So gone are the days where you need to wait around for your skin to absorb moisturiser after showering, and with no greasy after-feeling, you can slip clothes straight on and carry on with your day.

NIVEA In-Shower Body Lotion for normal to dry skin contains Sea Minerals that will leave skin feeling soft and hydrated.”

First and foremost, this is not a moisturizing body wash. It’s not meant to cleanse your skin. Yes, that’d mean you need to use your usual body wash, rinse, follow by NIVEA Skin Conditioner and finally, rinse again.

The idea behind this product is to effectively moisturize your skin immediately after your bath when your skin is still a little moist and pores are opened. According to NIVEA’s website, the skin conditioner is activated by water and immediately absorb into the skin. It leaves a nourishing and caring film on the skin surface without a sticky feeling.

I have been using it for about a week, once daily. It has very mild NIVEA’s signature floral scene that doesn’t really linger on skin. Thank goodness! Else I’d be a walking bouquet of flowers. It has a creamy texture even though it says lotion on the bottle. It leaves a beautiful sheen on my skin after I rinse it off. However, it doesn’t rinse off entirely clean, leaving a slight tacky touch on my skin. I had tried various method – used less of the product, rinsed off with a mild shower gel, and thoroughly rinsed it. It still felt a tiny little sticky, it doesn’t really bother me thou. Does it live up to its claims? Yes. The skin on my legs looks a little whitish and dry prior to using this. After almost a week of usage, it seems to improve! The best part is my existing dry eczema patches did not scream dry and itchy! That’s a big love!

Now the question I’m sure a lot of you would ask – can I use body lotion or cream instead? Well, you could try. However, since lotions and creams aren’t usually made to use in the shower, you may end up with slippery soap-like or sticky on skin. Most of these products would just sit on top of your skin. Remember NIVEA Skin Conditioner gets absorbed into the skin when it gets contacted with water.
